Curriculum Statement for Computing at St. Wilfrid's CofE Primary School

Intent

At St Wilfrid's C of E Primary School, our intent for Computing is to equip our students with essential practical skills for life in the digital age. We aim to foster a respectful and responsible attitude towards using information and communication technology, with a strong emphasis on safety. Our students will become competent computational thinkers, capable of problem-solving and creating through exploration and discovery.

Implementation

By fostering a learning environment where students are encouraged to discover, explore, and create we will deliver weekly Computing lessons following the Teach Computing scheme that incorporate the national curriculum alongside our additional focus areas. By creating cross-curricular links, students will see the relevance of Computing across different subjects. Our resources, including tools such as crumbles, Microbits, and Beebots, will provide hands-on learning experiences for our students to apply their skills in a practical manner.

Impact

Upon completing their Computing education at St Wilfrid's, students will be enthusiastic and confident in their approach to technology. They will possess a secure understanding of both the positive applications and potential risks of digital technology. Our students will be competent and adaptable Computational Thinkers, capable of using their skills in various aspects of their learning.

They will have the ability to identify and solve problems effectively, showing perseverance in 'debugging' issues that arise. Students will be able to create and evaluate their own project work, demonstrating creativity and critical thinking skills. Additionally, they will have an understanding of computing-related industries and careers, allowing them to consider future pathways with high aspirations for success in further study and adult life.
