DT

Curriculum Statement for DT at St. Wilfrid's CofE Primary School

Intent:

At St Wilfrid's C of E Primary School, our intent is to develop design technology skills in a creative and meaningful way, preparing our students to face the challenges of adulthood. Through our DT curriculum, we aim for our students to Discover, Explore, and Create, fostering a passion for innovation and problem-solving. We believe it is important for our children to recognise how much they can achieve when working as a team whilst also valuing their own independence.

Implementation:

Our DT curriculum will be delivered through a skills-based approach, where students engage in practical lessons and challenges designed to enhance their problem-solving abilities. Students will learn to utilize resources in different ways, critically appraise products, and establish their own design criteria. Students will be encouraged to critically appraise their own products and products created by their peers. Our projects will encompass a variety of products, including food, and will incorporate cross-curricular links to deepen learning and understanding.

Impact:

The impact of our DT teaching will be measured by examining student work across the school to ensure that essential skills are being covered and progressively developed as children progress through different year groups. By tracking students' growth in their design and problem-solving capabilities, we will ensure that they are well-equipped to tackle the challenges they will encounter as they transition from childhood to adulthood. Through pupil conferencing, we will ensure that students are engaged and feel enthusiastic about their learning in DT.
