Year 6 - IOW 2025
Day 1 - IOW 2025
We have arrived on the IOW!
After our exciting ferry crossing, we explored Ventnor - learning about how islanders have protected the coast. We also stopped here for lunch (it was super sunny!)
We then arrived at our home from home for the week - Winchester House!
After settling in, finding our rooms and having a delicious dinner (spaghetti bolognaise was one of the favourites!) we had some time to enjoy the outside space at the centre.
Before bed, we walked down to the beach for the Great St Wilfrid’s Sandcastle Competition 2025 - what a creative bunch we are!
What a great first day!
Day 2 - IOW 2025
Weather forecast was bleak today but plenty of fun was had as we went to the water sports centre!
We spent time having relay races on paddle boards, “mega surfing” on an enormous paddle board and we assembled rafts. We also went on a speedboat (which we LOVED!)
On land, we carried out a scavenger hunt and we also created some beach art. Take a look!
When we got back to base, we were tired but happy! Dinner tonight was a scrumptious roast dinner - followed by a disco!
What a fantastic second day on the island!

Day 3 - IOW 2025
What an awesome day!
We started the day by having a tasty cooked breakfast (if we wanted!) and then got ourselves ready for tree climbing. Over the next few hours we worked our way to the top of an ENORMOUS tree in Appley Park near Ryde - with a team a super friendly instructors!
We also had a go at ‘vortex howler golf’ and orienteering which was great.
To finish the afternoon, we visited a lovely local beach where we played games, built sandcastles and buried each other! Take a look!
When we got back to the centre, we had home cooked burgers, wedges, salad and pudding - which was delicious!
The day finished with the Dorm Challenge! Each dorm gave a HILARIOUS tour/show for the dorm inspectors - some of us even became butlers or bodyguards!
Great day all round!

Day 4 - IOW 2025
We had a wonderful day today visiting Carisbrooke Castle and - despite the rain - we managed to stay dry and happy! We had lunch at the castle, toured the grounds and museum and finally we visited the gift shop. In the afternoon, we went into the gift shops of Shanklin before returning back to the YMCA for our dinner of fish and chips or pizza!
Mr Hateley joined us today and was very proud of all the positive comments we received from members of the public about how polite and respectful we were. We are now watching a movie while eating some popcorn and will be soon getting ready for our last night. We are all excited about going ten pin bowling tomorrow but who will be better at it? Us or the teachers?
We’ll let you know when we see you tomorrow!
