Our Reading Challenge

The St Wilfrid’s Reading Challenge has been designed to inspire children to read a range of literature as they make their way through our school. We have taken time to carefully select the texts for each year group to ensure that children encounter both modern and classic texts, a variety of genres and topics and characters and themes from diverse backgrounds.

To complete the challenge for the year, children need to read 6 of their 8 year group texts.

Of course, all children learn to read and develop fluency at different rates, and some children might find their year group texts too challenging. However, the books can be read aloud by parents and carers, or listened to by audiobooks.

We have bought copies of each text which children can sign out of their classroom.

When a book has been read, make sure that your child answers the book talk prompts and bring it to school for a sticker.

When they have 6 stickers, they will have completed the challenge and if they read all 8 of the books, there is a special badge.
