Curriculum Statement for Geography at St. Wilfrid's C of E Primary School

Intent

At St Wilfrid's C of E Primary School, our intent for the subject of Geography is to foster a love for learning about the world we live in. Through a three-pronged approach - discover, explore, create - we aim to develop locational and place knowledge, understand human and physical aspects, hone geographical skills, and engage in fieldwork. Our additional focus is on nurturing understanding, respect, and curiosity towards diverse worldviews by provoking and providing answers to questions.

Implementation

To achieve our intent, we will implement a range of high-quality Geography lessons that are closely linked to the core values of our school. We will implement our intent by incorporating Geography into projects, lessons, and cross-curricular activities. These lessons will be designed to encourage students to actively discover information, explore different perspectives, and creatively express their own thoughts and reflections. We will utilise a variety of resources, organise school trips and excursions to enhance learning experiences. By bringing Geography to life in different contexts, we aim to engage and inspire our students to explore the world around them.

Impact

The impact of Geography teaching at St. Wilfrid's C of E Primary School will be measured through both formative and summative assessments, through project books, tracking skill progression, gathering pupil voice feedback, showcasing projects, and delivering presentations. By assessing our students' development in Geography through these methods, we aim to ensure that they have a solid foundation of knowledge, skills, and a deep appreciation for the world we live in.
